I checked out the BIA Tour Manhattan Beach contest today. There were some pretty sick waves for this contest, especially in the morning before the wind got on it.
I was super stoked on the Pro DK division today. There was definitely some sick DKing going down in that division today.
Mahalo to all the MB locals who participated in and/or supported today's contest.
Congrats to Bobby who won the Pro Open division.
Bobby giving a shout-out to Zach. May you have a speedy and full recovery, Zach!
After seeing some pics from yesterday, I made some time to check out the beach for myself this morning. It didn't look as good as yesterday, but there were still some fun looking ones coming through.
Joe's barrel-to-cutty-to-revo wave:
The elements just didn’t want to cooperate this morning. The wind blew onshore, the skies were cloudy and the waves were pretty small.
None of that seemed to matter to Chris Taloa, though. It’s amazing what he can do on a boogie even when all the elements seem stacked against him. Respect!
The BIA Tour will be kicking off its 2012 season this Saturday, March 17th, at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
Edit: The BIA Tour has rescheduled the Manhattan Beach contest to Saturday, March 31st, due to this Saturday's impending inclement weather. The contest will start at 7:00 AM. For more info, check out www.biatour.net.
Also, word on the [virtual] street, aka Facebook, is that there will be a DK Wars event going on simultaneously at the Manhattan Beach Pier during this Saturday's BIA Tour contest. If a DK Wars event does go down at the Pier this Saturday, I'll chip in $20 to the pot. I'd enter, but I don't think the other competitors are ready for my contest-ending backside, double knee, pearl-to-hulimakaflip secret move.
Edit: Chris Taloa has confirmed that this Saturday's DK Wars event at Manhattan Beach has been canceled. Oh well, I wasn't really going to chip in $20 anyway. Haha. Just messing.
Speaking of DK Wars, congratulations to local rippers Bobby and Nick who placed first and second, respectively, in this past Saturday's DK Wars event at T-Street.
It was virtually flat across the entire bay this morning. The usual spot was no exception.
I ended up taking pictures of the shore break at one spot. After a while of taking pictures, the shore break started to look fun. That said, I don't know if it was actually fun or if I was just too hard up for waves and started imagining things.
The surf report said it was flat. It wasn't lying
Hardly any surf today, but at least the water was super clear.
I always get stoked when a wave spits, even if the wave is only knee high.
This grom was having fun.
Patience my young grasshopper; in time you will learn how to properly get pass a breaking wave.
I don't get upset easily, but there are a few things that tick me off pretty bad. One of those things is stealing my rubbah slippahs. Stealing a Hawaiian's rubbah slippahs is like stealing his birthright. You can steal my sandals, you can steal my flip flops, but don't ever, ever ever ever, steal my rubbah slippahs!
This morning I took off my rubbah slippahs and left them higher up on the beach while I took pictures. Apparently, some overzealous beach-cleaning volunteer mistook my rubbah slippahs for trash and ended up throwing them away. Fortunately, there's a happy ending to this story as I eventually found my rubbah slippahs in one of the trash bags that the volunteers were using.
As for the surf: Bran and Al traded off some shorebreak barrels, which they had all to themselves.
This morning's sesh started off with some consistent waves. Then there was a long lull. In this pic, Al finds a way to overcome the boredom during said lull. The lull was so long, in fact, that both Bran and Al actually got out. Then it started breaking again with some decent peelers (for a shorebreak) so they got back in.
