Runoff

After coming home from the beach (and taking a long, hot, thawing shower) today, I ended up hunkering down in the warm confines of my home for the rest of the day. Although nice and warm, I ended up getting a little bored staying home for most of the day so I ended up farting around with some of the few clips that I got this morning.

The waves were ok - decent size and relatively long rides - but swamped out from the fat high tide. There was some significant runoff that you can blame on this morning's rather heavy rain.

Side-Shore Winds

I went to the usual spot today, but I was ill prepared for the gusty side-shore winds. Consequently, I ended up leaving shortly after I arrived. Here's a really short vid featuring a few clips that I got before my premature depature.

On the way mauka, I came across a spot that wasn't looking too shabby. While the wind was blowing side-shore at most of the breaks in the area, the wind was actually blowing off-shore at this spot. On top of that, with the exception of a few oblivious fishermen, walkers and bikers, there wasn't a soul in sight.

Here's a two-for-one post. The pictures are from yesterday and the video is from Saturday.

Much Like Friday

Here's a short video from Saturday. It was pretty much the same as Friday - nice conditions and nice waves - except Saturday was a little bit bigger.

Mid Day Stoke

With a hunch that the conditions were going to be good pretty much all day today, I decided to check out the beach around mid day. Not only did my hunch prove correct, but the waves were better than I expected. On top of that, someone left two hours worth of time in the parking meter where I parked my car. Stoked!

Winter 2012/2013 is Here

After a rather dismal summer and an almost non-existent fall, a nice winter swell was definitely a sight for sore eyes.

Here's some footage of said swell from yesterday:

Late November 2012 Swell - Day 1

Looking forward to the next few days with a nice swell on tap.

Took a gander around midday and there was definitely some juice out there. Pretty stoked to see some spots awake from their slumber as a result of this swell.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Unexpected Find

Up until recently, I rarely kept the original files of my pics and videos. So it came as a surprise when I recently found a few clips of a pretty good day at one of the spots that I frequent.

Not only was finding these few clips an unexpected find, but the waves that I recorded on that day were also an unexpected find. As I recall, I didn't expect anything more than what this spot usually dishes out. As it were, though, there were some nice in-and-out lefts that were totally makeable.

Since I was initially taking pictures on that day, I didn't have a tripod with me. That said, forgive the shaky video.

Foggy Friday

This morning was super foggy. Visibility was pretty bad. Here's a short clip from this morning:

November 20, 2012

Talk about a generic post title. Anyway, here are some pics from this morning:

In before Manhattan Beach pulls its annual "Hey look at all the Christmas trees on the pier... ok, you've looked at them enough; we'll be taking them down now"

... and not a moment too soon. Dang, it ain't even Christmas and you guys are already taking down the Christmas trees. Heck, it ain't even Thanksgiving.

Edit: On second thought, I wonder if these Christmas trees are donated to those less fortunate to brighten their Christmas. If so, I commended you, City of Manhattan Beach. It's truly a noble fir for a noble cause.

After checking out the beach, I decided to check out the Body Glove sale. Frugality got the best of me, though, so I guess I'll be using my puka-in-da-okole suit for one more season. Ha

Choppy Surf

I was hoping the winds had subsided enough overnight to make for clean conditions this morning. Unfortunately, that was not the case and choppy surf was the call for the day.

Around the Corner

There wasn't a lot of juice out there today, and the waves that did have a little juice were mostly close outs. Despite the lack of juice, there was something out there today that seemed to say winter is right around the corner. I better get those holes in my suit patched up! Or buy a new suit.
