Musical Session

For some reason I kept thinking of 80s music during my session. I guess I had to keep myself entertained since I was the only person out on the north side. The waves didn't look like much from the beach, but they were actually pretty fun. There were a few fun closeouts that came through.

Thanks to Nick for the pictures of me.

Not so Fast

I've been considering using my spring suit since the weather has been warming up. Yet, I've been hesitant to do so since the water is still cold. What gives? This Surfline article explains the intricacies of the Socal water temperatures. I guess I won't be using my spring for at least the next several weeks.

Beat me to the Punch

The ol' adage the early bird gets the worm usually applies to surfing. I say usually because it didn't apply today. I took a look at my main spot as well as a couple of other spots in the area and the surf was just too choppy - the onshore winds got to the waves before I could. As a result, I decided to stay dry.

Similar

The waves were similar to yesterday. I can't wait for tomorrow, it should be fun.

I thought this guy was a kook...

but he was pretty good

Angles

I wanted to see what the new swell had to offer so I ran down to the beach this afternoon to see what was good. I didn't catch a sesh, but I took a few pictures. The swell was coming in at an extreme angle. In fact, some of the waves looked like they were breaking almost perpendicular to the beach. It looked pretty fun.

The waves were breaking at a 45 degree angle from the beach

Heat Wave

After enduring the heat for most of the day, I finally couldn't handle it anymore and I decided to take a little stroll on the pier. The waves were similar to the waves from yesterday, with the exception of what appeared to be a little NW swell in the water. I was a little surprised to see a sponger in the water. Even though the waves weren't good, I'm sure he was happy to just be in the water and escape today's heat wave.

If you wanted to see a preview of the waves during the summer in the South Bay, you should have hit it up today.

Barrels of Fun

I caught a rare weekday morning sesh today. I always look forward to weekday morning sessions because they look so fun on the rightspotattherighttime. Speaking of the rightspotattherighttime, I caught today’s session with the man himself, bruddah Sal. I had a fun session. There were barrels galore, and a lot of them were even makeable. The waves were just bowling like I’ve never seen them bowl before at this spot. There were even some waves that bowled and then spat. And if that wasn’t enough, there were only a few other people out. Talk about scoring!

This could have been a money shot if I had taken the picture one second later. Dang it!

MS Viper Fins

A new Viper fin inspired by Mike Stewart will be available soon. I thought I'd mention that since Mike Stewart products are usually quality products. That, and I'm also a gear freak that will probably end up buying this fin just to have it.

Rusty Session

Before today's sesh, I hadn't surfed for over one week. Truth be told, though, it felt like I hadn't surfed for more than one year - I felt eerily impaired and out of tune with the elements during today's sesh. It was definitely a strange feeling.

At the Beach

It was a nice day to go to the beach today. There was a little something for everyone - sun for the sunbathers, a nice breeze for the joggers, and most importantly, surf for the surfers.

High Tide Session

As a result of surfing quite a bit last week, I had fin blisters develop on my toes. Consequently, I took a week-long break from surfing so that my blisters could heal. Fortunately, my blisters healed up enough for me to catch a sesh today.

The waves, coupled with offshore winds, certainly had potential. However, the high tide just swamped everything out this morning. As I write this blog entry, the waves are probably pretty good since the tide is on its way down.

One second later, and I would have taken a nice cutback picture
