Just Had to Get Wet

I hadn't been able to catch a sesh for while (I'm still bummed that I missed last week's swell), so since I was able to take today off, I decided to catch a dawn patrol. Not much out there except a super high tide, but it felt good just to get wet.

One thing about weekday dawn patrols: The waves might not improve as it gets later, but at least the crowd thins out. If I had taken this picture about a half an hour later, there would be only a couple of people in it.

Curious

I was curious to see how the swell was filling in this afternoon, so I ran down to one of the local spots at about 4:30. I was expecting it to be bigger, but I guess the swell is still on its way. Anyway, I snapped a couple of pics, grabbed a pie from the Manhattan Pizzeria, and then decided to retreat to warmth of my home (it's cold out there!).

Overcast and Just Plain Over it

The overcast skies this morning didn't provide the best environment for taking pictures, but I did what I could. The tide was super high, again. The water was already covering the barnacles on the pillars by 9 o'clock and the peak of the high tide wasn't until 11-something. I'm over this high tide and the swampiness that comes along with it.

Super High Tide

Even though the tide was super high this morning, there were some corners to work with. Offshore winds, an uncrowded line-up, and a nice clear morning topped it off, which made for a fun sesh.

Getting Some Love

If you were to ask any surfer who's familiar with Socal to list his or her top Socal surfing spots, chances are not one South Bay spot would be mentioned. In fact, there's probably a better chance that the South Bay spots would be listed on the other end of the spectrum as some of the worst surfing spots in Socal. True, the South Bay isn't Hawaii, Indo, or even the OC for that matter, but it does have its moments. Surfline shows the SB some love and features some of those moments.

So Close, Yet So Far

After seeing what the local spots had to offer yesterday, I decided to do some traveling to see what some of the other spots had to offer today. Yet after crossing county lines and adding close to 150 miles to my odometer, I ending up surfing at one of the local spots. LOL

I decided to keep the water cam dry for my sesh, but bruddah Sal was out there taking some shots.

Super sloppy

It wasn't only sloppy, it was also big. I could have sworn I saw some double overheaders. The wave in the background is a lot bigger than it appears in this pic!

A rare A-framer getting ready to peel.

A point break I came across as I was driving back. With the right conditions, I'm sure this spot would be sick. Definitely looked sharky, though.

Spot Checking

I opted to go Black Friday shopping instead of catching a dawn patrol today. After becoming impatient from standing in a seemingly never-ending line at Walmart, I decided to split and do some spot checking. I was expecting to see some liquid goodness, but I really didn't see anything good. Everywhere I checked was pretty walled.

I made a quick stop and took this picture with my phone. This was the best spot of all the spots I checked

It just wasn't working here
