Shorebreak Session

I caught an early session at the Pier today. It was so early, in fact, that I was surfing by moonlight for the first 10 minutes of my sesh. The waves had potential, but the really high tide swamped them out. There were some fun shorebreak waves coming through, though. They made for a fun photo session. The waves might be pretty good this afternoon as the tide rolls out and as the Santa Ana winds kick in.

Thanks to Sal for the sick pic of Nick on the knee. Thanks also to Brandon for hooking me up with some extra parking meter time. Which reminds me, the parking meters at the Pier will now give you only 10 minutes for each quarter (as opposed to 15 minutes for each quarter)

Afternoon Session

To celebrate the completion of my jury duty today, I decided to catch an afternoon session at the Pier. How was it, you ask? See the pictures...

Yeah, I know, not that good

If imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, this one goes out to Sal. I'll get a clip of an in-and-out soon (even sooner if you tell me the location of those sick waves that are posted on your blog!)

Mid-Day Dash

Since I had a long lunch break today, I decided to run over to the Pier to see what was good. The short answer: Not much. However, I think with the tide push, the waves might be better later today. As usual, I had a fun time taking pictures, even though a lot of the pictures came out blurry. That kind of makes me wish I had bought that Canon DSLR camera two days ago. I had the camera in my hand and was just about to buy it when I had one of those thought processing moments come to pass. In a proverbial cloud of thought I was skipping happily along with my camera through a field of daisies. Yet in another proverbial cloud of thought I was in the dog house with my wife for just spending $1,000 on something that, in her mind, I don't need. The latter was more influential than the former so I decided to pass on the camera.

A Little too Late

I ran down to the Pier this afternoon to take some pictures, but unfortunately, I got there too late - there wasn't enough light to take good pictures. All things considered, the waves looked pretty good.

Fun Session

After a string of days of small waves, today's waves were a sight for sore eyes - the waves were finally decent today. There were even a few nice a-frames that came through.

Exercise Session

I arrived at the Pier this morning, took one look at the ocean, and I knew instantly that I was going to have an exercise session. You know, one of those sessions where the waves are just so crappy that there's no logical reason to go out, but you want to go out anyway so you tell yourself that you need the exercise. At the end of the day, though, I had a fun session (thanks low expectations). Here's hoping for better surf tomorrow.

My Magical Camera

Based on my personal experience and on other people's reviews, I knew my new digital camera was good. I didn't know, however, that it was magical. After about an hour into my session, I decided to take some pictures. When I first started taking pictures, I was the only one out, but about 15 minutes later, a bunch of other spongers showed up. I thought "I take out my camera and a bunch of spongers show up". Of course the camera-sponger influx was purely coincidental. Besides, if my camera was really magical, better waves would have showed up instead.
