A Cloudy Monday

I wasn't particularly excited about the cloudy skies and onshore winds, but some of the locals made the trip to the beach worth it this morning.

Edit: I noticed that the vid is a little choppy when you watch it on my blog. If you watch it on YouTube it should play smoothly.

Morning Sickness

I was expecting some combo swell peakiness, but what I found instead was a little morning sickness complete with fog. Fortunately, the sun eventually burned through the fog and the weather improved. Did the waves improve, too? Eh, not so much.

Filthy Water

The water was so filthy this morning that I thought I was swimming at Onekahakaha Beach back in the 80s. I'm surprised I didn't see schools of dead fish start floating to the surface.

Despite the nasty water, I decided to jump in and partake of the shore pound. It was pretty fun until the wind and tide changed.

BBR Expo 2012

I went down south this morning to check out the BIA Tour Seaside Reef contest. The winds were cranking, however, so the contest was ultimately canceled. I don't know what the new date is for this contest, but keep an eye on www.biatour.net for the latest info.

With some extra time on my hands, I decided to take the beach route from Seaside Reef to San Diego in hopes of finding some cleaner surf. The winds were unforgiving pretty much everywhere, though, and I never really found anything worth stopping for.

As the clock struck 11:00 AM, I stopped by the BBR Expo at the Wave House. The BBR Expo featured exhibits from several bodyboarding companies, including Custom X, JL and WCB, raffles and live bodyboard shaping.

Upcoming Events for Saturday, April 14th

The BIA Tour will be holding its second contest of the 2012 season at Seaside Reef this Saturday. For more info, check out www.biatour.net.

In Memory of Zach

At 10:00 this morning, family and friends of the late Zach Solomon gathered at the Manhattan Beach Pier to pay homage to him. It was a tender moment that touched me, and most, if not all of those in attendance.

I surfed and took pictures from the water before Zach's paddle out. I had a fun little sesh in the shorebreak.
